Grilled Cheese

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread (sourdough or white)
  • 2 slices american cheese or 1/2 cup shredded cheddar
  • 1 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp mayo (optional, for the outside of the bread)

Instructions

  1. Spread butter (or mayo) on the outside of each slice of bread
  2. Place one slice butter-side down in a skillet over medium-low heat
  3. Layer cheese on top, add second slice butter-side up
  4. Cook until bottom is golden brown, about 3-4 minutes
  5. Flip carefully and cook until the other side is golden and cheese is melted
  6. Slice diagonally and serve

Notes

  • Mayo on the outside gives an even golden crust
  • Low heat and patience makes the best melt
  • Add tomato soup for the classic combo
