Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

Ingredients

Gravy

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne (optional)

Biscuits

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits (or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Bake biscuits according to package directions
  2. Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking into crumbles
  3. Reduce heat to medium, sprinkle flour over sausage and stir for 1 minute
  4. Slowly pour in milk while stirring constantly
  5. Cook until gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently
  6. Season generously with black pepper and salt to taste
  7. Split biscuits and ladle gravy over the top

Notes

  • Use whole milk for the richest gravy
  • Gravy will thicken as it cools, thin with a splash of milk if needed
