Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

Ingredients
Gravy
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pinch of cayenne (optional)
Biscuits
- 1 can refrigerated biscuits (or homemade)
Instructions
- Bake biscuits according to package directions
- Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking into crumbles
- Reduce heat to medium, sprinkle flour over sausage and stir for 1 minute
- Slowly pour in milk while stirring constantly
- Cook until gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently
- Season generously with black pepper and salt to taste
- Split biscuits and ladle gravy over the top
Notes
- Use whole milk for the richest gravy
- Gravy will thicken as it cools, thin with a splash of milk if needed
